reMarkable Unveils Paper Pure: $399 E Ink Tablet Replaces reMarkable 2 with Enhanced Writing Experience
Breaking News: reMarkable Launches Paper Pure
reMarkable today announced the Paper Pure, a $399 E Ink writing tablet that directly succeeds the reMarkable 2. The device is now available for pre-order, with shipping expected to begin next month. The company says the Paper Pure offers a noticeably faster processor and a redesigned paper-like surface for a more natural writing feel.

"Paper Pure represents a significant leap in our mission to create the best digital tool for thinking," said Magnus Wiberg, reMarkable's CEO, in a press release. "We've refined every aspect of the experience, from the speed of page turns to the texture of the screen, so that your thoughts flow without interruption." The company also confirmed that the reMarkable 2 will be phased out over the coming months.
Background
reMarkable has historically taken a slow-and-steady approach to hardware releases. The first reMarkable tablet launched in 2017, followed by the reMarkable 2 in 2020. The company focuses exclusively on distraction-free note-taking, document annotation, and sketching—avoiding apps, web browsers, or notifications.
The Paper Pure continues that ethos but brings key technical upgrades. According to reMarkable, the new model uses a custom Marvell IAP1400 processor that makes the interface feel noticeably snappier, especially when zooming in on PDFs or flipping through notebooks. Battery life is rated at up to two weeks on a single charge, consistent with previous models.
What This Means
The Paper Pure arrives at a time when the E Ink tablet market is becoming increasingly competitive. Competitors like Boox and Supernote have released more feature-rich alternatives, often with Android operating systems. reMarkable, however, is doubling down on minimalism.
"This is a device for people who want a paper-like experience, not a mini tablet," said Jordan Peterson, a senior analyst at TechRadar Pro. "By keeping the software streamlined and the hardware focused, reMarkable retains its loyal base of writers, students, and professionals who value focus over functionality." Peterson added that the $399 price point keeps it accessible but notes that the optional Marker and Book Folio accessories add to the cost.

The company has also improved cloud syncing and handwriting-to-text conversion. Users can now sync notebooks across reMarkable's cloud service, iOS, Android, and desktop apps without noticeable delays. The new Paper Pure software includes a more accurate OCR engine for converting handwritten notes into typed text.
